Responsible for planning capital projects, developing budgets, scheduling construction and managing an office of 10 design professionals to support the 60 Buffalo Public Schools facilities encompassing over 8 million square feet that serve 34,000 students and 5,000 staff. The district is the second largest schhol districy in New York State with buildings that have an average age of over 70 years. Our office manages approximately $20 million in capital improvement projects per year working with school principals, teachers, parents and students to insure that Buffalo schools are the finest learning environments in the state.

  • Manages a staff of design professionals and support staff and works with staff to develop designs and prepare bid documents for construction projects
  • Developed and procured a district wide solar energy project for 19 schools generating 3 megawatts of power of renewable power. The project reduces the district's carbon footprint and insures a stable cost of electricity over the life of the project. It is the largest solar project of any school district in NYS
  • Awarded the Blake Reeves Award for Environmental Leadership from the Sierra Club for establishing the School's Solar Program
  • Developed a long range capital improvement program, maximizing NYSED building aid
  • Created and maintains a comprehensive data base which identifies every room in every school in the district listing their use and size. This data base is used in conjunction with principals to insure their schools are used efficiently and within the rules and regulations of NYSED
  • Developed a facilities strategic plan and a long range demographic study that will assist the district in efficiently allocating instructional and administrative space to "right size" the district
  • Insures that all schools met all NYSED and NYS code requirements
  • Collaborated with instructional staff to develop plans and specifications for new program initiatives at Middle Early College, Advanced Manufacturing Program at Burgard and the new Hospitality and Culinary school
  • Communicates and presents projects to the Board of Education, parent groups and administrators for review and approval
  • Developed a strong and respected relationship with NYSED Facilities that insures the district receives the maximum amount of building aid possible
  • Implemented an advocacy program, "No School Left Behind" which assigns staff members to individual schools as a liaison between the principal and engineer and our office to provide an efficient method in addressing their facility needs
  • Managed the development and ultimate completion of a new 100,000 sf. Culinary school in a historic former livery building in downtown Buffalo.

As Associate Architect I was responsible for planning, designing and managing projects for the Buffalo City School District. I served as project manager for many of the schools renovated during the Buffalo Joint Schools Reconstruction Program, a $1.4 billion project that reconstructed 48 Buffalo Schools. Served as a liaison with the NYS Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) and worked with the NYS Education Department to program schools and maximize building aid.

  • Designed and managed numerous school renovation projects, additions, new programs and building infrastructure
  • Managed 13 of the 48 reconstruction projects during the $1.4 billion Joint Schools Reconstruction Program and acted as liaison with the NYS Historic Preservation Office to insure compliance with preservation regulations and that all projects preserve the historic fabric of the schools
  • Worked with the NYS Education Department other governing agencies to coordinate approvals and maximize building aid
  • Worked closely with school principals, engineers, teachers, parents and students to insure that every voice was heard and every concern addressed when developing new projects
  • Developed and managed the design and construction of the original Emerson School of Hospitality
