My expansive and in depth experiences in education have prepared me exceptionally well for the position of the Collier County Director of Valerie's House.

In addition to teaching a broad range of curricula spanning nearly 30 years, for which I have received numerous accolades over the course of my career, I have been deeply involved in the social and emotional growth and healing of my students, which on many, many occasions included grief processing and counseling.

During my tenure with the Livingston Public Schools I was a valued member of the Crisis Management Team which assisted students who were transitioning through various stages of grief and other challenges in life. In this role I worked closely with Guidance Counselors, Psychologists, Administrators and other faculty to create a comprehensive supportive plan of action which would assist students through their life challenges.


On a personal note, I was the primary care giver for my sister Mary throughout her long battle with cancer and her eventual hospice in my home. During that time I worked closely with family members, doctors, grief counselors, hospice care workers, social workers and nurses all in the effort to assist my beloved sister in her journey. This deeply personal experience of assisting someone through the final years, months, weeks, days and hours of their life taught me much that I carry with me today.
