I am a Sophomore at Lemoyne College studying Biology with a Pre-Medicine concentration. I am looking to gain hours of one on one patient experience prior to applying to Medical School, however being from the Albany aria I am also looking for a long term position. I am extremely flexible with my time as well as reliable. I am very hard working and would be open to any position I am offered.
Monroe Wheelchair is a company that specializes in adaptive equipment, specifically custom seating and positioning for highly disabled individuals. At Monroe Wheelchair my duties were to answer calls from customers who were interested in setting up appoints as well as customers who needed service about their equipment. In order to do this job to the best of my ability it was crucial that I knew about diagnosis, the equipment that we provided, and how to assist our customers in a timely fashion. More important than my knowledge of our product was my ability to feel compassion for our customers and their situation and the knowledge that without our product they would be immobilized. I was employed by Monroe Wheelchair as a summer position while I was in high school as well as the summer following my Freshman year of college. This position sparked my interest in the medical field and encouraged me to strive for a career in the medical sciences.
As a senior at Berne-Knox-Westerlo high school I was a part of the New Visions Health Careers Program at St. Peters Hospital. Throughout my high school years I took many advanced placement courses and as my senior year approached I felt that I had exhausted all my options to challenge myself. Rather than take the easy way out and enjoy a stress free senior year I chose to apply for the New Visions Health Career opportunity offered by Capital Region BOCES. In this program I took classes in medical terminology and introduction to the health careers which provided me college credit as well as attended internships within the hospital. On these internships I shadowed doctors, nurses, and various other medical staff during their day to day activities to get acclimated with what it meant to be in the medical field. This program only solidified for me what I already knew, that I wanted to be involved in this field. Although I did not achieve one on one patient care while in this program it did offer my many other opportunities that will benefit me in a position at Albany Medical Center. I know my way around a hospital, and although the lay out of St. Peters is very different from Albany Medical Center i know how to figure out where I am going, making it that much easier to do my job. Also I am aware of the hierarchy of workers in a hospital. I also feel that having prior experience in a hospital will help me to understand the fast paced positions that I am applying for.
At Lemoyne College I am perusing a degree in Biology with a medical concentration. I am majoring in Biology while minoring in Chemistry. I am currently finishing up my Sophomore Year and have a cumulative GPA of 3.54 to date. I am a member of the health profession and biology clubs. I have completed both General Biology and General Chemistry and after this semester I will have completed Anatomy and Physiology.
