Elected for three consecutive terms as county commissioner at large for Weld County, a county with 290,000 citizens growing rapidly with primary industries of agriculture and energy, including oil, gas, wind, and solar. Serve as a member of the 5 member commission with responsibility for all operations, support, and policy establishment. Responsible for enacting rules and regulations regarding environment, health, social services, public works and land use which includes contracts, legal, human resources, recruiting, security, and program management to serve citizen needs and support the rapid growth and operations of the county. Led strategic planning for positioning the needs of Weld County with state and federal programs to support transportation, housing, employment opportunities to benefit the ever changing needs of our citizens in a balanced and fair manner. Key focus on developing mission solutions at local, state and federal levels. Public representation of Weld County on a daily basis in the media and the community. Weld County is the only county in the United States with no short term, long term debt or sales tax. debt free county with no sales tax.Pertinent achievements: 2011 Worked with Governors office to reorganize the Regional Air Quality Control committee for Northern Colorado; 2009-2010 As part of Metropolitan Planning Organization, the lead air quality entity for Northern Colorado, worked successfully to apply science instead of opinion to ozone measurements/rules. 2015 As part of South Platte Basin Roundtable, helped develop Colorado Water Plan 2015-16 Expansion of 1 25 Hwy in northern Colorado area; funding to obtain expansion in place. Developed further expertise in fiscal affairs, budget preparation, enactment and facilitation of rules, regulations, policies, and system development.
Served as Chief of Staff to Sen. Allard, Colorado from 2002-2008; managed 32 person staff in Colorado and Washington,D.C. Oversaw and managed development, implementation, and analysis of legislative agenda. Maintained relationships with extensive array of stakeholders critical to success of the Senator and the State of Colorado. Prior to that, served as press secretary 1996-2002; dual responsibility district area director; Coordinated public policy decision making and legislative agenda. Managed inquiries to the office from press and public; coordinated meetings with the Senator. Developed expertise in the areas of strategic planning, support for Senator on Environment and Public Works Committee, Banking Committee, Armed Services, Intelligence, Agriculture, Budget, and Appropriations. Responded to issues that arose for constituents. Pertinent Experience 1998- Worked closely with Mayor Wellington Webb and the office of the EPA Ombudsman to develop the plan the removal of radioactive materials from the former Shattuck area Project completed successfully 2000
