I am currently looking for research experience in the medical field. My goal is to work in an environment with physicians that can be possible mentors for me while I pursue my own career in medicine. A position lasting a year or longer would provide beneficial time to learn new skills, and insight into the professional setting. I am currently a post-bac student at SFSU, and with appropriate planning can commit to at least 8 hours/week for the next year. This upcoming semester, January-June, I have set aside availability in my schedule so I can dedicate substantial time towards learning a new position. Specifically, I do not have class obligations on Wednesdays or Fridays, and the rest of my schedule is flexible.
Although I have not worked in a research setting before, I believe I have many qualities that will make me a successful and useful volunteer on Dr. Sudore's team. Learning is a rewarding process for me and makes me a naturally hard worker. I understand that close attention to detail has important consequences and, although mistakes are inevitable in any job they can and should be minimized with close scrutiny to one's work. Having excellent, clear communication, is a tool that constantly needs sharpening. Also, for me communication has a retrospective component where I ask myself, what went wrong or right so I am always getting better at working with others.
Besides having what I believe to be a solid foundation necessary to carry out the duties described for this position, I am also particularly interested in learning about aging, especially amongst the VA community. Development is both an interesting and relevant field in my education, work experience, and personal life. While most of my work experience has been with children and adolescents, I understand later years of life are equally important in terms of overall health and well being. Coming from a military family myself, I appreciate the importance of a culturally competent intervention for advanced care planning and medical decision making. I would like to volunteer with you to round out my experience working with an older population and with the hope my work can contribute to something useful in other people's lives.
Thank you for your time reviewing my resume and considering me for the position. I look forward to hearing back from you. If you have any questions or wish to contact me, please feel free to reach me on my phone: (303)345-4560 or by email: Cody.Novack16@Gmail.com.
