In my nursing career my goal was patient centered care focused. The same can be found in my teaching, student centered focused. My goal as an educator is to teach in a manner that is engaging to all learners. I enjoy finding new, innovate, creative, interactive ways to educate and present learning material(s). I feel that a good teacher is one who is reflective and continually seeks to understand what the students' needs are to maximize their potential and how to engage them in the learning process. An educator serves twin roles, as an educator and as a tutor. While a teacher provides instruction, a tutor provides extra help or guidance when needed.
I place God in the fore front of all that I do. My faith is what directs my teachings. Luke 6:40 (NIV) states, “A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone when he is fully trained will be like his teacher”; I learn from my students just has much as they learn from me. This verse reminds me of that moment when you can see that your student has made that connection or formed the understanding of a certain topic or skill. You can see that "click" occur. My goal is to educate and train future nurses to be prepared and excel in their field and provide care to those in need with kindness, understanding, wisdom, and compassion. Proverbs 9:9 (NIV) teaches us to “Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still; teach the righteous and they will add to their learning"; my goal is to lead my students to a path of lifelong continued education. I want them to understand that in the field of nursing there is always something new to be learned and to embrace the opportunity to learn and grow.
Romans 15:13, "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."
