I'm a hardworking team player. I like staying organized and staying busy. I'm a self starter, I get along with everyone. I don't call in or miss work unless it's an emergency. I'm not late or a no show. I enjoy my work and talking and helping anyone from patients to customers no matter what I'm doing. I feel like I have a lot of experience in this field I know there is always more to learn and I'm open and willing to do that. I understand that claims need EOB's and the difference between private insurance, Medicaid and Medicare and how billing and EOB's differ. I'm looking forward to a change and to learning another side of the billing process. I feel like I have a lot to bring to this position and I know I am able to learn the different tasks that come along with it and learning them fairly quickly.
I work in Contract Heath, I have many job duties throughout any given work day. I research the patients bill or claim for any hospital visit be an emergency room visit or their Dr sending them out for surgery. I track down if the bill has already been paid and if so what CPT Codes have been paid, when and how much. I interact daily over the phone or in person with patients to discuss their bills, I interact daily with different hospitals, clinics or debt collectors trying to collect payments. I also have experience entering referrals in the system. Last summer I was asked to move over to Hastings to help out due to our department being short staffed. I was up front and dealt one on one with any patients that came in to turn in or discuss their bills. I answered phone calls, transferred phone calls to the person who could best assist the caller. I have experience with faxing to different hospitals or clinics. I also have occasionally had to research for and return finished spread sheets in a timely manner. I answer emails, return phone calls, sort and stamp mail. I've also on occasion had to go into RPMS and cancel referrals when needed. I have daily experience in RMPS, emailing, faxing, copying, and typing. I am also very familiar with guidelines on how the different counties are split up and where things need to be sent if not covered by Cherokee nation. I have weekly experience with doing mail outs, sorting claims that are not being paid by Cherokee nation noting on the claims what needs to be done with the claim and where it needs to be sent. I have been here for 5 years and I would like to assume I have learned some from every step of our department. I have always helped when asked and I do catch onto things pretty quickly and really haven't came onto much in office work that I don't enjoy. I love helping people, I'm very organized and I tend to get along with almost anyone. I enjoy working and being out and chatting with different types of people. I have had a patient even send me a bouquet of flowers just bc I helped them take care of their bill over the phone. Those times seem to make up for the angry patient that calls and rants, I try to put myself in the patients shoes and know that I would be upset also if I were to receive an outrageous Dr bill that I was told was going to be paid for. I have learned a tremendous about of patience and realize you have to treat all patients the same no matter what the situation or the way they are treating you. I also have experience with following up with patients, hospitals or clinics, keeping a phone log, filling and sorting claims. I'm a self starter and I like to stay busy working. I enjoy my job and the patients I have helped and met through these 5 years and I am happy to stay in my position, but I'm wanting to learn a new part of billing and go further than a clerk position. I'm excited for something new as well as a new way to help more patients.
During this time I got the opportunity to stay with my Grandpa and take care of him. He had a stroke a few years prior and lost his speech and had a few other medical issues. My duties for him were everything from making breakfast, lunch and snakes daily. Cleaning and keeping his room, bathroom and setting areas clean. Bathing, washing and wiping him. Helping him to the bathroom. Moving him from place to place while at home as well as to and from the car on occasion that I took him to Dr appointments. I took care of giving him his medicine. Also took care of Dr appointments and keeping up with home health nurses and physical therapist that would come out to see him. It was a lot of work and very hard and tiring at times but I'm so glad that I out of our entire family got to spend all of that one on one time with him. We had a lot of fun and I took pride in my work everyday I was with him and taking care of him.
