As a CHT my duties included:
Setting up of hemodialysis equipment and initiating, monitoring and discontinuing dialysis treatments according to standards. Priming of dialyzers including all safety checks related to the reuse of dialyzers. Performing and recording physical measurements including weight and vital signs pre and post treatment. Questioning patients regarding their general health and response to previous dialysis treatment. Safely and effectively cannulating patients fistula/Graft, as well monitoring patients access for infections or any abnormalities. Administering Lidocaine 1%, Heparin and normal saline PRN as ordered following facilities policies and procedures. Monitoring patients throughout their hemodialysis treatment including vital signs, machines checks, emergency intervention and tending to miscellaneous patient needs. Neatly and Legibly charting of treatment information and routine tests per each procedure.
As a Village Research Assistant I played an important role in the Amgen research study, cannulating each patient on study, making sure the research drug was administered and documented properly, and drawing and labeling labs for study. I was also trained in the use of electrocardiograms (EKG). I prepared and performed EKGs on all patients participating in the study (under the supervision of our facilities physician). I was observed and selected among all teammates in our facility to participate in this important study to improve patient outcomes.
As a reuse technician my duties included:
Safely and effectively reprocessing dialyzers, properly labeling and documenting all aspects of reuse. Cleaning, inspecting, testing and sterilizing the dialyzer after a patient undergoes his/her treatment. Preparing peracetic acid, bi-carbonate, and citric acid. Monitoring the R.O. system and testing chloramines at the beginning of each patients shift.
