I am writing to apply for the position of Breastfeeding Program Community Doula. I learned of the position through Beth Goldberg of Believe in Birth, from whom I received my doula training. I will bring my diverse experience in the fields of labor and postpartum birth work, women's health, customer service, childcare, and environmental education to the community doula position. Most of all I will bring a passion for providing integrative community-based support to underserved women and families in North Philadelphia before, during, and after childbirth. Relevant qualities include: Labor and Postpartum Doula Expertise: I am a Birth Arts International trained labor and postpartum doula. I am currently working towards Birth Educator Certification through Birth Works. I am committed to continually improving my practice through professional education and personal study. Adaptable and Creative Leadership: I have experience and confidence working under pressure in unfamiliar and changing environments. I also have experience adapting to new situations and developing dynamic solutions to challenges as the moment demands. I pay acute attention to detail and have logistical foresight coupled with comfort improvising when situations demand adaptation. I remain calm under pressure. Written and Oral Communication Skills: In my work as a doula I clearly communicate my scope of practice while actively listening and responding to client needs. I appropriately balance patience and assertiveness and know when professional or nurturing communication is most appropriate. I also compile and author user-friendly hand-outs and relevant resource lists. Google Docs. I regularly complete due diligence and qualitative research using digital and print media. Given my subsequent experience, requisite skills, and enthusiasm I believe that I am a very good candidate for the position of community doula. Per requirements for the position I have a valid PA driver's license, a dependable vehicle, and a clean drivers record. I am productively humbled by the responsibility and challenges that come along with this position. I look forward to improving all of my current abilities in preparation for the position and will continue to do so as a community doula. Thank you very much for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Liz Fullerton ... in the movement towards re-humanizing birth...
