Worked with Houston Alliance of Black School Education. Obtained the RISE diversity certificate through the RISE diversity leadership program, which helped me gain better knowledge on my own culture and the culture of others. It also effectively enhanced how I engage and work with other diverse populations. Received a Cougar ALLY certificate, in which was a training on how to better support our LGBTQ+ community and the tools needed to do so. Graduated as a lavender graduate, which is where I demonstrated my efforts and alliance to creating a safe space for LGBTQ+. Lastly, collaborated and worked closely with the African American studies department and college of education on various topics pertaining to marginalized communities, unequal education opportunities in low income schools, and examining systematic racism.
While working as a Special education clerk, I routinely performed routine checks and comparisons of reports or records for compliance with our Special Education program, prepares and completes mailing process of student records or correspondence, assisted with organizing records, maintaining Special Education student folders, and other permanent records assigned and while protecting confidentiality of student records and information, prepare and process record requests from other schools and colleges for student records, scheduled students for testing and assessment appointments, answered telephones and responded to inquiries, assisted students/parents with general program information,facilitated successful monitoring and completion of compliance checklists of IEPs as meetings occur, and last but not least, made sure all our my student were in compliance.
