Former Title- Deputy Superintendent and Redesign), for Bibb County Schools. I spearhead and oversee the direction and work and budgets that total over $100M, of the following departments: Title I, CTAE, Alternative Education, and Race to the Top, Gear Up, and Response to Intervention. I am accountable for monitoring and implementing the non-negotiable elements for Bibb County's Priority and School Improvement Grant (1003g) schools. Upon arrival in the district, I was asked to use my expertise in urban school and leadership development to serve as a resource for the co-developers of the Macon Promise Neighborhood Project. I also, collaborated with Assistant to the President of Mercer University to apply for grant funding for our early- learners in the Southwest Corridor of Bibb County Schools. I am the District's liaison for the county's dependent and independent charter schools/programs. I provide professional learning to the district's school intervention specialists through a certification program. Through oversight, collaboration, team-work and delegations, we have had three schools ( 2 High Schools -1 Elementary School) removed and eligible for removal from the USED Priority Schools List.
Atlanta, G A On January 4, 2011, I was appointed by the State Superintendent to spearhead the newly created Office of School Turnaround. I instituted the training and and roll-out of targeted professional development in the area of performance coaching for forty-five of Georgia's school improvement specialists, assigned to give technical assistance to GA's lowest achieving schools. The schools in which they provided oversight were State Directed, recipients of SIG and Race to the Top awards. Due to the reorganized of the Georgia Department of Education, and School Turnaround repositioned under the Office of School Improvement ( which has a Deputy Superintendent) my position and separate division was eliminated.
13 schools were removed from the Priority list during my tenure as Deputy.(July, 2013)
Performance Consultant for GA's Leadership Institute for School Improvement (GLISI) in this role I provided assistance to the leadership team in 45 school districts and assisted principals in over 250 schools over this five-year period. The districts I have served are noted in my honors and accomplishments. (Reason for leaving / promotion by the Superintendent of Coweta County Schools to Director of Professional Learning for the district.
School received recognition from State Dept of Education, awarded USA Today and Wallace Grants concurrently for advances and innovation in education reform. Served 225 transitional learners who accomplished the following: 84 % of the students passing Middle School Writing Assessment 100% first time 11th grade test takers passing GHSGWT Over 90% of the students tested passing the GHSGT Recognized at the GA Southern National Youth at Risk Conference as a model for Alternative Education Programs. ( reason for leaving- Superintendent authorized my working On Loan to the GA Leadership Institute for School Improvement (GLISI)
G A developed the Skill of the Week program. This program provided the eighth grade students failing in math for two consecutive years the extra support that enabled them to receive state recognition for receiving highest test gains. Using Title I funds, I created "Project Jump Start": This program provided forty-five rising fifth grade at risk students that fed into Central Middle School an introduction to middle school, while providing 6th grade course work in the area of Reading, Math and Language Arts. Funds were limited; therefore I collaborated with The Housing Authority for transportation, and summer nutrition program for daily meals. (Reason for leaving- promotion)
While in Auburn I supervised the Alternative Ed Programs, Teen Pregnancy, In and Out of School Suspension programs, Auburn University Athletic Mentoring Program, Chairperson of district tribunals and supervised our district Residency Policy. This position was created by Dr. Ed Richardson, superintendent, and was eliminated when Dr. Richardson became State Superintendent and subsequently President of Auburn University (Alabama).
