Performed as a Psychiatric Intake RN in conjunction with the Emergency Department. Assessed acute psychiatric patients coming into the emergency room for medical clearance. Evaluated these patients' mental status in order to determine appropriate course of action, whether they met admission criteria for inpatient hospitalization, or if they would obtain more benefit from a different resource, such as a day program, a detox program, etc., then arranged said referrals. Responsible for screening and coordinating all potential psychiatric transfers from other facilities in the area. Responsible for keeping inventory and ordering supplies for intake unit, as well as ensuring that the unit is kept in clean and functioning order.
Provided supervisory experience to night shift staff, provided staffing assignments based on units' acuity and census, completed admissions and medical clearance screenings for potential admission candidates/new admissions. Provided guidance and supplies for units when nonclinical departments unavailable. Assisted with priority events on units such as restraints, emergency medications, and medical emergencies. Coordinated transfers to and from facility and ensured that Nursing Director was aware of any note worthy events that occurred overnight. Also completed chart audits and post-restraint assessments.
