For the past 7 years I have served in the rural healthcare setting as Chief Accountant and CFO of a hospital district consisting of a 14 bed Critical Access Hospital, 30 bed Nursing Home, Rural Health Clinic and Wellness Center.

01/2015 to Current CFO Banner Health | Chandler, AZ, Work with CEO and 5 member Board of Directors to develop and execute financial goals and objectives of the district.  Provide sound guidance regarding management of the district's assets and investments.  Assist department managers with developing and implementing financial plans such as increasing revenue and adhering to board approved operational budgets.  Ensure monthly financial reports and management reports are distributed timely.  Reconcile balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis.  Identify and correct any accounting or internal control issues in order to facilitate a clean audit opinion with no audit adjustments or internal control deficiencies being noted.  Continuously monitor the revenue cycle to identify risks to district cash flow.  Maintain good relations with the community while keeping credit and collection policies current and sound.  Maintain proper insurance coverage to reduce district financial risks.  Monitor and ensure compliance with existing 340B contract Pharmacy.
06/2008 to 01/2015 Chief Accountant Hyatt Hotels Corp. | Chesterfield, MO, Regularly assisted CFO with budget preparation, financial statement/management report preparation and any other assigned task or project.  Exclusively responsible for accounts payable, payroll & benefits and fixed assets.  Coded the general ledger and processed vendor invoice payments by check and virtual credit card payment.  Ran the bi-weekly payroll process.  Processed all salary changes stemming from merit increases, promotions, bonuses and pay adjustments.  Conducted benefits administration for 75+ benefit-eligible employees.  Coordinated fixed asset additions and retirements.  Collaborated extensively with external auditors during preliminary and year-end audit processes.  Worked with Medicare Cost Report consultants to ensure accurate and timely preparation.  Responsible for bi-annual Board of Director elections and the hospital district's Bond election in 2013.  Implemented accounting changes resulting from $25M general obligation bond issuance for construction of replacement facility.  Participated in Strategic Planning sessions with Board and management which included assistance of Texas Healthcare Trustees.

Core Accomplishments
Conducted an intensive clean-up of the depreciation schedule, identifying and removing hundreds of small dollar "ghost assets"  that were either long disposed of or totally unidentifiable.  Updated and simplified existing capitalization polices to ease record keeping yet still satisfy Medicare guidelines. 
 
Took advantage of HMS virtual credit card payment program with ComData in order to facilitate quicker and more secure vendor payments and earn a substantial rebate for the district each month.  
 
Successfully slowed the growth of employee health insurance costs without diluting benefits by transitioning from a fully insured plan to a self-funded plan. 
 
Following promotion to CFO, place a renewed emphasis on stricter budgetary adherence and reporting of variances to Board of Directors.  Increased departmental participation in budget preparation and accountability.  
 
Increased organizational awareness of revenue cycle weaknesses by participating in the Flex Grant program for Financial & Operation Improvement with the Texas State Office of Rural Health.  As a result, created Finance Committee consisting of 2 board members in order to enhance the Board's understanding of specific weaknesses, educate them to options available to remedy and gain their support in moving forward with an agreed upon solution.
