I am able to apply my extensive clinical background in surgery and emergency medical technician training in the OR. I currently apply these skills at Sentara Norfolk General Level 1 Trauma Hospital, specializing in trauma, orthopedics, vascular, and neurosurgery. I received a vast range of clinical training in the operating room as a surgical technologist student at Riverside School of Health Careers. I am trained in preoperative planning according to the physicians' preference, surgical procedures, and patient safety methods. During the surgical procedure, I proactively make decisions and anticipate instrument/equipment that benefit teamwork efficiency and patient outcomes. I have performed tasks that exceed the expected responsibilities of a surgical technologist under physician supervision. After the surgical procedure, I apply dressings, casts, and postoperative wound vac therapy systems with complete autonomy. I am able to recognize an emerging critical situation and assist the OR team in a variety of resuscitation procedures. As a CST III, I conduct presentations and hands on in-services for Sentara Norfolk General OR employees and Eastern Virginia Medical School resident interns. I am part of a military family who taught me to adapt to new environments quickly in both my professional and personal life.
My cultivated childhood has allowed me to embrace diversity; giving me a broad understanding of ethical practice in health care. I have been successful in balancing a heavy academic work-load at Old Dominion University and fulltime employment. I have a strong initiative to advance my current level of impact in patient care as a Physician Assistant.
