For the last year I have worked as a CNA at a nursing home and now currently work as one at a hospital. I have worked three different departments, Swingbed is my main area but I work over in Med/Surg quite a lot, and the third department is ICU. I am PRN for swingbed and med/surg and on-call for ICU. I have my BLS/CPR which is good through May 2019 and my CNA doesn't expire until October 2019.

I work mainly on the Swingbed unit where I assist the patients with learning how to function with their ADLs and adjusting with their current injury. I also assist with helping the Physical Therapist with their therapy. I assist the nurses with IV's, wound care and taking vitals and blood sugars. I am trained not only to take the vitals with the machine but also manually. I also PRN on the Med/Surg unit which includes applying electrodes and hooking up the EKG monitor and when I work the ICU I assist the nurses with taking hourly vitals and any emergencies that they have. When I am at the hospital I respond to any and all emergencies from Weather emergencies, to fires to Code Blues. I have used different charting systems from Meditech to Connect 6.0.
Prior to becoming certified I worked at a nursing home as a nursing assistant. Which I still did everything the CNA did while I was in school. Here I changed patients, assisted them with their ADLs, and helped them with feeding. I was someone the patients could talk to and did my best to help them feel less lonely. I performed oral care on those who couldn't and assisted with their denture care.
I completed 100hrs for the Certified Nurse Aide program. I completed my clinicals at Holland Lake Nursing Facility where not only did I learn the State required skills but I also learned how to change Colostomy Bags.
I completed the Basic Life Support and CPR class that also included Basic 1st aid and training with an AED machine.
