I have worked in quite a few building trades and have been a maintenance assistant.. I have a reliable truck and a backup vehicle as well. I have all the power tools needed to build a house and then some. I like doing residential construction as it is rewarding on several levels. I like fixing things for people. I am looking for a position with a company that offers health insurance after a period and that withholds income taxes and social security/ FICA. I can work by myself or with co workers.
Working for A Brighter Image has given me an opportunity to use almost all of my different trade skills. I might be replacing copper plumbing with pex, installing new ceiling fans, or removing a wall to open up a floor plan. We do exterior work as well like replacing rotten fascia board and any exterior trim (cornice). Caulking and painting trim and replacing siding. I can remove and install exterior doors and windows replacing any rotten or missing framing down to patching the drywall and bending new metal for the exterior casing. I own a brake so I can do flat metal work. As maintenance assistant I took initiative on several projects. I removed the old fence and built a new one to enclose the dumpsters and generator. I had new dumpsters delivered. I tore down the old shed by myself in a day . I patched and sanded and painted many rooms and offices. I can troubleshoot some problems with kitchen equipment and do basic repairs like replacing switches or heating elements on steam table. I can replace squirrel cages, fan and blower motors, and heater coils inside a PTAC unit. I can also run a floor buffer. In the past I have done mainly trim carpentry and cabinet installation. I also worked installing carpet, doing ceramic tile, and sanding hardwood floors.
A Brighter Image is involved in mainly residential construction. Most of our work is for a real estate company that buys distressed properties and hires us to rehab them. The work involves replacing old plumbing and wiring, removing interior walls and re-framing to open up floor plans; replacing ceramic tile in kitchens and bathrooms; replacing toilets and vanities. We upgrade interior doors to six panel and usually need to plane the new doors. We do a lot of drywall repair and painting as well. We also pressure wash houses and decks and paint exterior trim and the siding if needed. The company is trying to grow but as of now I have to withhold my own taxes and I do not have health insurance.
Painting, keeping grounds clean, repairing beds and PTAC units. Replacing floor tile, ceiling tile, renovating resident rooms and staff offices. Replacing lighting ballasts, roof inspections, shingle patching, gutter repair, replacing exhaust fan belts and motors. Maintaining a smile.
Residential trim carpentry. Install all doors, baseboard, window sills and casing. Finish off stairs. Building decks and some dock work as well.
All cabinet, counter top, and sink installations at Grandy Village rehabilitation project in Norfolk VA 2003-2006. Also all doors, baseboard, shoemold, pantry and closet shelves installed. This is a public housing complex so all cabinets and baseboard had to be installed on block walls using hammer drills and tapcons and a t-nailer for base.
I struggle with classroom learning but I can pick things up very fast if I can learn hands on. I would be willing to pay or have the money deducted from my earnings to pay for HVAC training and if I need other additional training.
