As a double major in Mathematics and Economics, I gained expertise in important modes of mathematical reasoning as well as the ability to clearly express their analyses. I am adept in geometric/spatial reasoning, algebraic structures, calculus, and number systems. This program gave me the knowledge and discipline to focus on important core mathematical methods and structures as well as their use in solving problems in other disciplines.
As an Economics major, I studied and gained an understanding of Microeconomics and Macroeconomics. I learned how people, businesses, and government agencies use the scarce resources available to them (such as time, money, land, etc.) to achieve their objectives (such as earning income, making a profit, etc.). I also studied the processes that determine the overall size of the economy, the factors that cause the economy to grow or shrink over time, and related problems like unemployment and inflation. Both programs are designated STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) program.
