Professional Summary

01) My level of experience in the livestock industry exceeds 30 years

02)Raised on a cattle ranch in Southeastern Oregon (1961-1979) I lived the everyday experiences one encounters in the livestock industry. I learned first-hand how to care for and manage cattle, horses, sheep and hogs. It was necessary to not only know and recognize our own livestock, but to be able to identify livestock belonging to other ranchers as well. We lived in a vast open range area where ranchers cattle pastured common ground and cattle always mixed. I learned at an early age to recognize neighboring ranches brands and to notify owners where their cattle were found. I advanced my knowledge through 4-H and Animal Science.

I spent 4 years working on various ranches throughout Central and Eastern Oregon.

I continued my livestock endeavors through ranch leases from 1986-1998. I raised purebred Red Angus cattle, then purchasing my own ranch in 2004. During this time I worked part-time for a feedlot and the Oregon Brand Department. I stayed involved with local and National cattle industry, local law enforcement and served on various boards.

03) My knowledge of ranch management principles include, but are not limited to:

identifying multiple breeds and crossbreeds of cattle

recognizing health issues and injuries in cattle, horses, and various other    livestock animals

Competent in everyday feed requirements for livestock

Efficient in keeping calving records, vaccination records, pasture movement records, breed association records, registrations, monitoring current cattle market, tax records & forms, payroll, equipment maintenance and records

04) My experience in livestock marketing include, but not limited to:

Daily duties include marketing live cattle, bull semen and embryos. Live cattle sales include cows, bulls, heifers, calves, steers and often custom orders. Setting prices on private treaty sales requires keeping current with the commercial cattle market.

05) My experience and knowledge with livestock industry laws, rules and regulations of brand inspection and registration is reflected from 30 years of owning and marketing livestock, 4 years of employment with Baker County Sheriff's Office and 8 accumulative years of employment with the ODA brand department.

06) I am a current ODA employee
