For the past 14 years, I've been assisting more than 170 parishes implement the Annual Catholic Appeal in their parish. My recent focus has been on ways to encourage pastoral leadership to increase participation as well as the average gift. My strengths are communication, strategy and relationship building. The combination of these three strengths, a solid team, and best practices have enabled us grow our appeal from $7.1 million to $15.1 million with a pledge fulfillment rate of 97%.
I started off with the chancery office in 2003 as an administrative assistant to the Annual Catholic Appeal and Parish Stewardship offices. With an amazing team and mentors, I quickly moved to the Assistant Director of the Annual Catholic Appeal. I was in this position for four years until I became the Director. I am responsible as the team lead to design, market and implement the Annual Catholic Appeal in 171 parishes and missions. As the Director, I supervisor two employees and encourage their development through weekly meetings and annual performance reviews.
The Archdiocese is conducting a $100 million campaign over the next two years. My role has been to communicate the processes of how we conduct the annual appeal campaign from marketing and accounting to how best to communicate with the parish leadership to ensure implementation of the campaign. I oversee the database employees who are responsible for the data needs of all parish lists for the major gift prospects and all mailings. I attend weekly meetings with the core chancery team and the campaign consultants. I also manage the translation needs of campaign materials in Spanish and Vietnamese.
I was responsible for all administrative work of parish life without a support staff other than a few volunteers on occasion. Our parish community included a main parish and a mission with a total household count of approximately nine hundred. I was responsible for the implementation of the Annual Catholic Appeal and Parish Stewardship. In addition, our parish conducted a capital campaign in 2000 and I became the assistant to the consultant. We worked side-by-side for weeks and exceeded our goal of $750K despite the removal of our pastor from ministry at the conclusion of our large donor ask phase.
From the beginning of my development in fundraising, I have been a self-starter. When I started in the Archdiocese of Seattle development office, I analyzed all that had been done in the past for the annual appeal and was asked to suggest ways to improve and better market the appeal. In collaboration with our team of three, we have made many improvements over the years and continue to review what we do every year so that we don't become complacent. I've also attended ICSC conferences to gather information that could assist our appeal and I listen to the pastoral leadership in parishes to glean ideas on best practices and marketing to parishioners.
