At this current position, I perform all necessary functions for laboratory workflow, including hematological and biochemical analyses for the assessment of health and toxicity effects in clinical and pre-clinical safety evaluations for pharmaceutical, biotechnological, and chemical products in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices. I perform quality control and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation and prepare shipments of biological samples. In addition, my duties include reviewing protocols and raw data, and doing extensive data entry of completed projects, as well as conducting experiments for new procedures.
Worked in a generalist capacity on the laboratory evening shift and also acted as Evening-Night Shift Supervisor for over two years. My experience during this time included the analysis of blood and body fluids by both automated and manual methods in the areas of Hematology, Chemistry, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Blood Banking, Microbiology, and Serology, in addition to performing the necessary phlebotomy. I was responsible for quality control, preventive maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of laboratory analyzers, and running quarterly proficiency surveys, as well as completing annual competency testing. As the Evening-Night Shift Supervisor, I was also expected to oversee and review the work of the other techs and coordinate the schedule.
While holding this interim job, my main duties included identifying and contacting prospective members by phone, setting up subsequent appointments with them, and conducting meetings where I would help them to fully understand the benefits of membership. I also customized payment options to suit each prospective client.
I spent more than ten years almost exclusively in Microbiology, where I also served as the department Supervisor for over two years. During this time, I performed a wide range of procedures, including but not limited to inoculating cultures, performing Gram Stains, organism identification, and antibiotic sensitivities as well as preparing tube and plate media. I also analyzed proficiency samples, performed quality control, maintained laboratory instruments, kept accurate records of all associated procedures, and designed various charts for our department. Additionally, I also was responsible for keeping precise track of inventory and supplies and placing orders as needed. As Microbiology Supervisor, I also was responsible for overseeing and reviewing the work of the other techs, and submitting their yearly performance evaluations.
