First service industry job. Third-shift hours, between 30-50 hours a week. Duties included strict adherence to uniform, pre and post shift-change side work, maintaining drink sales percentage of at least 15 percent, regular and seasonal/special menu memorization, expediting plates, exchanging cash transactions from personal bank, restocking and rotating various perishable food items, deep cleaning, executing cutting procedures often being the only server on for several hours until First Shift crew arrived, and volunteering for restaurant remodeling days. Ultimately Third Shift was not preferred.
Day and night shifts, ~30 hours a week. Duties included responsibility for all customer needs due to 'tip-share' system, including greeting all patrons, refilling drinks, receiving orders via booth phones at each table, running food, and assisting in any miscellaneous needs, as well as completing opening and closing duties, restocking, following strict to-go order procedures, handling cash, managing large catering orders, and being creative with projects around the restaurant. Ultimately, tip-sharing was not perferred.
Well-known, extremely busy, and funky gourmet grilled-cheese restaurant. Was recognized multiple times by customers on Yelp/Google for being an attentive and "cool server with a great t-shirt collection", including a review that says, "We had Sierra as our service this time and she was INCREDIBLE. Best service we have received there yet. Ask for her if you decide to visit, you won't regret it." Duties included managing a 6-12 table section, expediting all plates, prebussing and washing all dishes throughout the night, completing shift-change restocking duties, understanding extensive menu items especially the composition and flavor profiles of 20+ cheeses, memorization and familiarization of local and ever-changing beer list, ability to carry 40 lbs, managing a patio section, with typical nights selling over $1200 and maintaining a 4-5 hour waitlist. I loved this crew, and only quit for relocation opportunities in Denver.
