I sold Advertising in a local radio market. I had to research using the Nielsen ratings for the market and demographic I was selling to. I built strong relationships with local owners and I put a business plan together to show them how Advertising could help their business. I also was a copy writer for the radio station, responsible for writing my own ads for my clients. I was one of 2 female voices to voice ads for the station. At the end of my first 6 months I hit my sales goal and was a top seller in my area.
I attended my first year of college as a Vocal Performance major and an English minor. By the end of my first year, I decided I wanted to go into Radio. My professor, Mike Doyle an Audio professor at Arkansas State recommended I start an internship early . I went home that summer and began my first internship at Kool FM Radio Group. I learned how to run the boards and how to report live coverage. I helped assist in live remotes. I learned about the radio station and how they brought in their revenue. I shadowed several DJ's and Sales force. I learned how to lay my voice and how to manipulate it. This internship not only gave me credit in my degree program but experience in future classes and careers.
I interned at FOX 4 News Group out of Memphis, TN. After my first year of Radio classes, I soon discovered I wanted to be talent. I decided I wanted to be a Investigative Reporter. I was very lucky and shadowed one of the top reporters of that time, investigative reporter, Heather Crawford. I wrote stories, edited video, went on beat with Heather and she helped me learn how to do live stand-ups and report live coverage. I covered city council meetings, soft stories, hard stories and feared for my life on the last beat that I went on with Heather. A man had passed away and we went to get his mug shot from his home and all of his family decided they did not want us there and so they all pulled out their knives and guns and started running toward us. All I remember is being thrown in the van by the photojournalist. I decided that day that I needed to do something else!

My main job was to enroll students into the college, however I did much more. I was a trainer. I assisted new Admissions representatives to shadow what I do and to teach them about all of our programs and the history of the school. I served as a academic advisor by helping the student to make their first schedule and overcome work conflicts and transportation conflict. I sat on the QEP board. We would discuss ways to help students succeed in class by offering different resources to them, like tutoring hours, extra assignments or whatever they needed to help them in their time at the college. I served as a counselor by listening and helping overcome any obstacles that would hinder the start of school. I sold $50,000-$100,000 programs to families. I wore many hats during this job. I decided that I loved working with college students but that I wanted to teach instead of counsel and enroll. I work very well with this age group. Having attended traditional schools, I understand what they go through everyday as a college student. I loved motivating them to start school and to stick it out even when it got hard.
After leaving the Art Institutes I looked for college positions both Adjunct and Full-time. Unfortunately, I did not have any college experience except for working in Admissions for 3 years. I had just received my Masters and wanted to start working right away. I attend First Baptist Church of Carrollton here in Texas and knew that they had a Pre-Kindergarten in their preschool. I went straight to the Director of Children's Ministry, Marili Linstrom and told her I needed a job. I sent her my resume and she hired me. I was so excited! I really enjoy working in a Christ-centered environment but my first love is still with older kids. My dad lives in Arkansas and my family and I will be relocating to the Fayetteville area.
I currently teach Pre-Kindergarten. I teach ABC'S and 123's. I teach colors and opposites and just this year my goal is to teach my students 40 sight words to prepare them to read for Kindergarten. I have a few students who are ready to read, so I will be working with them individually. I access my students throughout the year to see where they are socially, physically, mentally and academically . I offer avenues of resources for struggling students. My lesson plans include different units throughout the year, but I always get to include God and Bible verses in my lesson plans. I have parent/teacher conferences throughout the year with my parents to let them know how their student is progressing. I have wrote practice lesson plans for college level in my Masters program and I had to do several of these to graduate, but nothing in the real college setting. I love working for people who put God first, strive for his wisdom and knowledge in all that they do and put their students first. I hope that you will consider me for this position.
