I am a veteran teacher of 16 years. I am certified 7-12 in English and have passed the Middle School Social Studies Praxis as of Spring 2012. Responsibilities I have undertaken outside of school include: maintaining a school literary magazine and school newspaper alongside students, co-coaching volleyball, before and after school tutoring, teaching summer school, leading a reading club with remedial readers, and planning the 8th grade formal dance. This past school year I have taught three subject areas: language arts, reading and social studies. Having attended two weeks of AVID training during the summers, I regularly employ AVID strategies in my classroom. With the implementation of Common Core, I have begun training in the use of Common Core strategies as well as adapting my teaching to compliment the PARCC assessment. I am a problem-solver by nature and enjoy new challenges. I am a Paideia-minded teacher; every student can learn. Students should have ownership in their learning. I facilitate and encourage their learning.
