I am the first 8th Grade Language Arts teacher at Prospect Ridge Academy. As a teacher, I strive to make my students academic, ethical, and social leaders which aligns with our school's vision statement. Being the first 8th Grade Language Arts teacher at PRA, I have had the opportunity to develop engaging lesson plans that align with the Core Knowledge curriculum. Along with that I have developed both formative and summative assessments that align with the lesson plans and Core Knowledge curriculum. It is my responsibility to differentiate lessons and instructional materials for meet the needs for all of my students, especially students on plans (either 504 or IEP). On top of that, I am constantly in contact with families and students about what is going on in my class. I keep my class website updated and I am always available to be reached by e-mail should a parent or student have a question or concern. As a teacher I work to make a positive connection with the surrounding community. This year I started PRA's first chapter of the National Junior Honor Society. I serve as the chapter adviser which includes running monthly meetings, checking in on all thirty members, and helping the members plan and execute service projects.
Last summer I had the opportunity to serve as the Business Director and Assistant Director of the Denver Girl Scout Day Camp. As the Business Director I was responsible for helping counselors order craft supplies and lunch supplies for a unit of fifteen to twenty campers. Once I had the orders, I had to check and make sure that the order was going to fit in the budget. I would shop daily for the food supplies and weekly for the craft supplies. At the end of each month I would reconcile the camp credit cards and make sure that the monthly budget was being maintained. As the Assistant Director I was responsible for helping day cam run smoothly for the summer. I oversaw eight camp counselors and supported them as they developed program for their campers. I also helped with any behavioral or discipline issues when the counselors felt they could not handle a situation. I was in charge of checking health forms and communicating any concerns to the counselors. I also kept in close contact with any parents that had questions or concerns about their camper. Additionally, I was in charge of the Program Assistant program (PA) in which middle school through high school age girls came to camp to shadow a counselor. I was responsible for checking in with these girls every day and evaluating their performance as a PA at the end of the week.
