I worked at a wood shop for 3.5 years using Sketchup. I was doing all the 3D modeling for the cabinet design. I learned Sketchup in high school, which is where I took all three classes. I also currently do 3D design for conversion van company.
I was hired on to make 3d models of the cabinets. This company had never done this before, the clients really liked the fact that they could see what the room with the cabinets would look like. The drawing I would do not only got used for the client but some of them were used to build from. I learned what was right and wrong with using the drawings to build from. I also worked in the wood shop building some cabinets to have a better understanding how to build them in Sketchup. Having the real world understanding help a lot in the building on the computer.
I do the modeling for the interior and exterior of the van for the client to fully understand what the van will look like. I work for them on a consulting basis, the work is steady. The vans are interesting to work on because the vans only change a little between the builds. They have set looks that can be modified to give the client what they want. The way I put it is that its the same cookie with different fillings each time.
I am still at SRJC taking the AutoCad classes. I have been going to the JC for 2 years now, I did take some time off after high school which was helpful to show me what I wanted out of college.
In high school I took two years of Sketchup. It was a fun program to learn in high school because it was easy to learn and it kept me interested unlike some of my classes. I would always try to spend as much time in the classroom trying to figure out different parts of the program that our teacher was not teaching. I would also not stop trying to make each project look as good I could. I starting learning Sketchup in 2012 and still I learn new things about it, which to me is a good thing.
In high school with taking all three classes of Sketchup I got top honors in the class for working the hardest on each project. I was the only person those year that got the honor. I then at the awards dinner got asked if I wanted a job at Anderson's Quality Wood Working from the owner. He pulled me aside and offered me a job on the spot.
