How to Write a Resume Objective

Sample Resume Objective

The purpose of a resume objective is to communicate who you are, what kind of position you’re seeking and why you’re the best person for the job.  We only recommend including a resume objective for entry-level applicants.  Individuals with an employment history are much better served by a resume summary , which allows you to elaborate on your experience and how it will benefit your future employer.

If you’re going to use a resume objective it should be short and to the point.  One to two sentences will suffice. Avoid generic resume objectives like “seeking a position with potential for growth and advancement.”  Be specific.  Focus instead on what drives you and your unique skill set or knowledge.  Think of it as your personal branding statement.

Resume -objective

The resume objective above works because it starts with a passion (serving others), leads to an intention (launching a healthcare career) and concludes with a statement on what you can offer the employer (valuable experience).
