Your Summary is Important
The first thing that should be on your resume is a professional summary. Your professional summary should summarize your entire resume in only 3-5 sentences. It needs to be strong and entice your potential employers to read more. If you are competing against dozens of people, or they need to hire someone quickly, you might not get your entire resume read if your summary doesn’t speak to the hiring manager. Add Licenses and Certificates at the Top
It’s important to add the certificate course in the education section. Your employers are likely going to want to know when and where you received it. However, any licenses and certificates you have should be listed at the top. This includes any animal first aid and CPR. Add Plenty of Work Experience
The sample resume has about 5 years of work experience. While that isn’t bad, it could be better. Employers like to see about 7 to 10 years of experience. If you were recently in high school and didn’t work, add your high school graduation year under the education. High school should be listed anyway so the employers know that you did graduate. If you have 7 to 10 years of experience, make sure that you list it, even if it doesn’t pertain to the job that you are applying for. It shows that you have a good work ethic, and you could have acquired skills that are important in the job at other places of employment. For example, if your new job has you working with people often, any past jobs working customer service will show that you are experienced in dealing with people all day at work. Something that might not seem relevant to you, could seem relevant to your potential employers. When you list your work experience, make sure that it begins with your current or most recent employer and work your way backward . This way, you can stop whenever you have enough experience or when your resume has reached two pages long, whichever comes first.
