Your resume is often the only information a potential employer has to form a first impression of you. No matter how experienced you are, if your resume is poorly written you have less of a chance at getting an interview than someone with fewer skills who has a better crafted resume. This Truck Driver in Arkansas resume sample will show you some common mistakes to avoid.
Accomplishments Are Strong Points
If you decide to add an accomplishments section to your resume, it must have measurable achievements or else it will appear to be fluff and exaggeration, which will work against you. This sample is on the right track with the first two points which provide concrete information, but you need a minimum of three accomplishments for this section to have the right impact. It is better to leave out the spacing if you have single sentence entries, so that your accomplishments do not appear sparse; use a bullet format instead.
Lots of Experience Isnt the Whole Story
Having a lot of experience may actually be detrimental to your resume if it clutters the page. Parse your information and dont add too much detail. If the company wants to know more about any of your previous work, you can provide more information at the interview. Always use bullets instead of free text to make your experience easier to review quickly. Your most recent experience should be written in the present tense. Wrong: Truck DriverMartin Brower Co ? Education is Chronological
Education needs to be listed in chronological order with the most recent experience listed first; always provide dates of graduation or anticipated graduation. This resume sample lists two colleges with the same major in two different formats. If you attended one institution but then transferred to another to finish the degree, you dont need to mention both of them, only the one you currently attend or the one where the degree was completed.
