Handing section order
The order of your resume sections is deceptively simple. It may seem like you can format it however you see fit, but employers expect the standard organization to be implemented. This standard has been developed to organize the information in a way that it is easy for them to learn what they need to know quickly. You should begin with a summary that is about four lines long, then a skill highlight that is two columns of three or four bullet points. Next, your experiences section should have five to eight points for each position held. Finally, a few details of your educational experiences should be covered.
How to format your experiences
As previously mentioned, the experience section should take the form of several bulleted lists. Failure to format the experience section in this way is a major mistake for this sample resume. Handles special projects as assigned by supervisor. Take note how difficult it is to gain any information from this paragraph because it is just a block of text. Each bullet point should start with a strong action verb, no personal pronouns should be used, and you should cover previous responsibilities. Managing your resumes length
The most significant problem with this sample resume is its length. If you fail to fill an entire page, it will create a bad impression with employers before they even begin reading. You should not bleed onto a second page unless you are covering more than 10 years of work experiences. Correcting the formatting in the experience section will significantly lengthen this resume, but it also may be necessary to add some optional extra sections.
In addition to the standard sections that are expected of your resume, there are a couple optional sections that you can add. The most common section that writers include is an Accomplishments section right after the skills highlight. This should be a bulleted list of at least three points detailing specific and tangible results of your actions in the past. Examples of appropriate accomplishments are Increased profits by 6% or Improved efficiency with a consistent work process. You can also choose to outline awards you have won at this point. Alternatively, at the end of your resume, you can include a section for Affiliations, Certifications, or Licenses.
