Never write in third person
Your resume is about you, so it always needs to be written in first person. This applicant uses third person verb forms in the Professional Summary section. To fix this error, he would need to make sure he adjusted the verbs to reflect first person pronouns.
Always use bullets points in a list
There is a lot of information that needs to be included on a resume. Bullet points are necessary to organize this information and make it more easily accessible to those reading it. Jorge does a great job using bullet points in the Experience section, but fails to include them in the Accomplishment section. He would need to make sure each detail had its own bullet point. WRONG: Accomplishments Promoted to Store Manager after three months in Assistant Manager position. Be sure to use present tense for current employment
Because current employment is ongoing, all of the verbs need to be written in present tense. This applicant writes them in past tense, which implies he is no longer doing these tasks. He needs to go through and change each verb so it’s in the present tense.
Always include locations
Each job you’ve had has a location, and that information is always required on your resume. Jorge doesn’t include the location in his second job entry. To fix this, he would need to make sure he includes the location of his job in the same way he included it for the other jobs.
Only write up to 8 details per job
Details are an excellent way to showcase skills that you can bring with you to a new job. However, too many or too few details can cause issues. There should be between 5 and 8 details per job included on the resume. Jorge should combine or delete some for the longer employment entries and create more for the shorter entries.
Put Skills section at the top
Any technical skills should be listed in a Skills or Highlights section. This applicant lists them in a horizontal list at the bottom of the Education section. Jorge would need to make sure they were included in the Highlights section as long as they are relevant to the job he is applying for.
Don’t go below 10-pt font
Usually, a resume needs to read very quickly. Anything that causes a resume to be read slowly might cause your resume to be passed up. Small print can be one of those issues, so you should make sure your minimum font size is never less than 10-pt.
