The professional summary on this resume is spot on. It will pull the hiring manager in and make him or her want to keep reading the resume. It begins with the person’s title and the number of years of experience they have. It goes on to state what the person has done in the past to show what they will bring to the table if hired. This is exactly what you need to do for your professional summary.
Highlights and Skills
After your professional summary, you need to make a list of your professional highlights and the skills that you posses. This can be a little tricky because you don’t want to make it too long or too short. Around 10 highlights or skills is perfect for a resume. You want to list some of your most important skills and accomplishments so the hiring manager knows why you are a perfect fit for the job. All of the skills in this sample resume are important; however, the applicant should pick the top 10 and remove the rest.
Formatting is Key
If your resume isn’t properly formatted, it will be difficult to read. You could lose out on your chance at an interview solely because of the way your resume is formatted. The section headings in this sample work well because they are bolded and larger than the rest of the text. They are also in their own margins, so they don’t run into the text. Since the text is centered, the headings are on the left so they are clear. If you want to make yours aligned with the text, add borders before and after your section text headings, or even just after. Here is a couple examples. Example 1: SUMMARY Innovative project manager bringing 20 years of success in directing new project launches, managing various contracts, instituting cost and schedule controls and establishing corporate policy. Hiring and terminating personnel as required. Diligent Manager who consistently monitors sites to ensure proper compliance with building and safety codes.
