First impressions can be tricky when it comes to finding a new job, but making your resume the best it can be is a great way to make a standout impression. Looking over sample resumes helps you find errors in your resume, so we’ve asked our experts to give us their feedback on this student pharmacist resume.
Make sure the Professional Summary is about skills and experience
The Professional Summary is designed as a quick sell of your skills, traits, and experience. This applicant chooses to discuss intentions and skills that are mostly irrelevant to the job he is going after. He would need to rework this section to include any person skills or traits that he can bring with him to the job.
Put volunteer work first if it’s the most relevant work experience for the field
Volunteer work is great to list, and even better if it’s the only real work experience you have in the field you are entering. This applicant puts volunteer work that should be one of the first items seen on the resume last. It should be moved above the Experience section or inside of it.
Put Licenses after Education
Licenses are necessary to put on a resume if you have them, but they shouldn’t be one of the first things listed on the resume. This applicant puts the section right after the Profession Summary section. Instead, Hoang would put his sections in this order: Summary, Skills, Experience, Education, Licenses. He could also list the certification in the Summary and Skills section.
Don’t include statements in the Education section
The Education section is formulaic, so no personal statements about your studies or intentions should be mentioned here. List only schools, area of study, date of graduation (if any), GPA (if a recent graduate), and location. This applicant would need to delete the paragraph he included to fix this issue. Always use bullet points
Whenever a list of information appears on a resume, each entry needs its own bullet point. This formatting rule helps to organize information in a clear and standard way. Hoang doesn’t include any bullet points. To fix this, he would need to turn on the bullet points and hit enter for each detail. WRONG: Sushi Chef Dec 2012 to Feb 2013 Sushi Alive ?
