It was submitted to our experts for review and, we have used it to provide you with practical examples and guidelines to help you master your own submission. Putting these tips to use is the best way to elevate your resume and stand out from the crowd of other applicants.
Always use a strong summary
The summary is the most important part of the entire resume in that it is the first thing an interviewer will read. Many busy hirers will use the few words of the summary to quickly assess whether or not the rest of the document is worth their time. Take a good four to six lines to build a strong presentation of why you are an excellent candidate for the job. A brief mention of some of your best attributes can entice the reader, encouraging them to give sharp attention to the rest of your resume.
Use bullets for lists
Resumes are full of information, and different lists can present very dense packets of information to a reader. A simple format change can make long, cumbersome lists much easier and more inviting to read. This is especially important when your sample is being read by a busy manager. Anything that can turn them off to reading your submission will likely hurt your chances of getting hired, as they are liable to simply skip your document in favor of one that is easier to read. Wrong: 1Trained new employees. Volunteered to help at Special events outside of establishment. Worked many special brewery events. Always exploring new pubs/breweries to improve beer knowledge. Right:
You can see how much impact the format change brings to bear. When using bullets, short points like these should be kept between three and eight points per column. Longer points, like those recommended for the experience section, should aim to contain five to eight points per list.
Experience section should be rich in detail
You just read about having enough bullet points in the experience section. This example does not use bullets in the experience section, but it should. To meet the recommendations, it would need quite a bit more information for some of the job entries. If you find that your job listings are lacking in points, try to fill out the experience with specific details. Even if your regular duties were light, you can compensate by including individual problems that you overcame, or any other similar points. Wrong: Congregation Ale House ? Pasadena, CA Responsible for learning continually growing beer knowledge, cocktail recipes and weekly food specials. Giving exceptional customer service while implementing all skills required of position. Achieved my CBS(certified beer server). Right: Congregation Ale House ? Pasadena, CA
There are a few additional details worth noting. Every point begins with a capital letter and ends with a period, even if it is not a complete sentence. Additionally, the personal pronouns were dropped to improve the professional quality of the language. Finally, this sample did an excellent job of providing the full, written form of the acronym it used. If that acronym came up later, the long form could be dropped. This same level of expertise can be applied to your personal resume. Take advantage of QuintCareer’s Resume Builder, and you can have a professional, impactful sample in short order.
