Resumes are one of the most important parts of the job search. If you are looking for a new job, make sure your resume is up to the high standard that employers have by using QuintCareer’s compiled advice and tips. Take advantage of this South Lake Tahoe business student resume sample to ensure your resume does not make similar mistakes.
Writing the summary
The summary section should be your introduction that communicates a general overview of your professional qualifications. You should include information about your skills, experiences, and unique professional traits. This sample summary includes a brief and broad description of past experiences and mentions two general skills the writer has developed. This is not nearly extensive or detailed enough to pass with readers. Your summary should be about four lines long, which means this section has plenty of room to be extended. Be sure to include specific information about what you have done, how long you have been working, and several specific skills you have mastered.
Formatting the experience section
The experience section is the most important part of your resume. This section should be organized perfectly to be as clear and concise as possible. The experience section seen here is obviously messy and poorly organized, but it also fails in that it has next to no information in it. You should list your previous positions, but include five to eight bullet points after each one. These bullets should be in the past tense, except for the current job, and start with a strong action verb. It may look like this: Sales Associate April 2012 to Current Beachworks San Diego, CA
There are too many positions listed that are indistinguishable, but three or four of the most important ones should be maintained and changed to appear more like this one.
The education section
The education section is meant to be a very brief list of your educational experiences, both past, present, and future. The section seen in this sample resume is too long. Only one or possibly two lines are needed for each experience listed. Include just the name of the establishment, the kind of program completed, and the date of graduation. If you will be graduating in the future, you can either simply include what date you anticipate graduating or write intended 2017 for the date.
It is important that you take a look over your resume after you finish writing it. You should find and eliminate any simple typographical errors, such as the overlapping text in this resume’s experience section, and think about how your resume appears as a whole. Before an employer starts reading, what will they think of your resume and of you? Is it messy and sparse, like this resume, or is it appealing and inviting? Making some of the changes listed above will help this resume’s appearance, but it also may be necessary to add an optional section.
There are a few optional sections that you can choose to add. The sections already in the resume are the essential ones, but you can also include an Accomplishments, Awards, Certifications, or Affiliations section. These sections are typically added at the end of the resume, but accomplishment or award information can be included just before the experiences section. Make sure that your resume does not extend past a single page if you add an extra section. Create a resume that you can be proud of with the help of LiveCareer.
