Leave out the word I from your resume summary
Your resume summary is going to be the very first paragraph a prospective employer will read about you, so you want to really make it count. You need to keep it concise and eliminate extra information that is not related to your skillset. Therefore, you would want to remove all third person pronouns to make it read as quickly as possible. For example, this sample resume has this sentence in the summary: I have worked for two municipal plants. This can be shortened down significantly to just this: Worked for two municipal plants.
Have at least three points per column underneath skills
Your resumes skills section is a quick opportunity for you to briefly go over the general talents you have picked up over the years. However, there is still a certain format you should adhere to when writing your resume. You can have either one or two columns in this portion, but you want to make sure there are a minimum of three skills in each column. This sample resume has three points in the first column but only one in the second, so you could simply combine these like this:
Combine Relevant Experience section with Experience
After you discuss your skills, you should go into your work experience, and there is really no need to have two separate sections devoted to your professional training. You do not want a bunch of divisions within your resume, so it would be best to just have a single section devoted to your various experiences. For this resume sample, the points given under Relevant Experience should merely be moved down into Experience under the appropriate workplace. This will make your resume so much easier to go through, which is what hiring managers want.
Always start with most recent information first
This rule goes for both your work history and education sections. You always want to start with whatever is most recent or relevant because that will give the most accurate representation of where you are in your life right at this moment. Therefore, this sample resume should move the current job before the job held in the past, and his degree from 2009 should be placed before his certificate from 1979. Most employers expect resumes to be formatted this way, so do not confuse somebody by mixing everything up.
Use bullet points instead of paragraphs for work experience
Similar to how a skills section should be formatted using bullet points, you will want to do the same when discussing your professional experience.
