Your resume is the first impression you will be making on a potential employer, so you want to make sure it is a good one. Keep summary between four and six lines
The summary will be the first actual thing of substance an employer is going to read on your resume, so many people feel compelled to pack it will every single piece of information about themselves. You only want it to be around four to six lines. This will give the reader a general overview of what you have to offer the company without completely filling it to the brim. This particular summary contains eight lines of information as well as how many years he has been a union boilermaker and union millwright. A few of these points can be taken out and pasted down in the experience or accomplishment section.
Equal columns in highlights section
All of the qualities listed in the highlights section are useful for a boilermaker. However, they are not evenly distributed between the two columns. The first one has five qualities while the second one only has two. Redistribute them so that your highlights section looks like this:
You generally want to have somewhere between three and eight bullet points in each column. You could also technically have seven bullet points in just a single column, but that may make your resume longer than you want it to be.
Experience section should include dates and locations
This resume simply has a bunch of different companies listed at the top of the work history section most likely because the applicant pretty much had the same job at each business. However, this is not what employers want to see when they read through a resume. They want to know for how long you were at each company and where exactly it was, so they know if you have done a lot of moving around. If you have done the same job at a bunch of different companies, limit it to the few that are the most recent or where you had the most senior position.
Use bullet points in experience section
There is a list of tasks the applicant performed in the experience section, but you want to be certain that they are formatted with bullet points instead of just being on separate lines. The reason for this is that using bullet points is much easier for the reader to see when one line ends and when the next one begins. You never want the reader to struggle to read your resume, so make it easier on everyone involved by just using some simple bullets.
High school diploma does not necessarily have to be included
If you are just starting off in the work force, it does not hurt to include your high school diploma. However, this resume states that the applicant earned his high school diploma in 1995, so it is no longer really necessary to include. The more important aspect to getting this job is the work experience, so that is the field in which he should put most of his focus.
