No matter what kind of job you are trying to get, whether it is entry-level or more experienced, you absolutely need to have a well-crafted resume if you want any hope of getting it. Our experts understand the kind of weight employers place on resumes, and they have some useful tips you can learn about in order to write a better resume. They read a restaurant delivery driver resume sample to find everything that could be enhanced, and they have a few things to say about it.
Summary should be a cohesive paragraph
Although formatting everything with lists is a typical component of resumes, your summary should be the one section that is a paragraph. Instead of just listing off some basic skills and personality traits like this sample resume does, you would want to put everything on the same line. It is also important to make your summary at least a paragraph long, which is generally around four sentences. Therefore, this resume sample should include a couple more points to reach that length. Additionally, you should avoid saying anything along the lines of how you are looking for a new job within your summary because that is just redundant.
Minimum of three skills per column
Most job postings list off skills that the employer is looking for in a potential employee, and having a skills section in your resume that contains some of those traits is incredibly useful, provided that you actually have them. Although it is acceptable to use two columns when discussing your skillset, you generally want to avoid having two columns if there is going to be less than three points in either of them. Since this sample resume only has two points in each column, you would either want to add a couple more qualities or combine them like this: Skills
Work experience should use bulleted lists
Although your summary should be formatted as a paragraph, you are going to want to use a list to convey information in your work history section. This will make the material easier to go through. For example, we could redo the information given for Riviera Italian Ristorante to look like this:
This same thing should be done for every workplace you have listed on your own resume.
Go into as many specific details as you can in work history
This sample resume is being used to obtain a job as a restaurant delivery driver, and while he does have plenty of experience in that field, you should reasonably assume that all the other candidates are going to have a similar amount of expertise. Therefore, you want to make yourself different from everybody else, and a good way to achieve that is to go into as much quantifiable information as you can on your resume. Using the list given above, we could rewrite it to be along the lines of:
This list is so much more interesting to read than the other one, and that is exactly what you want.
Get rid of GPA
Unless you are still a student and you have a really spectacular GPA, it is typically recommended to leave it out of your resume. This person graduated high school a while ago, so his grades are not really relevant anymore. More attention should be paid to related work experience that is desirable for the job you want.
