Use bullet points to separate professional experience
Organization is key to a successful resume. Consistent formatting and concise statements help to make the information on your resume easy to access. Bullet points should be used when possible instead of paragraphs because they help to organize and make your skills stand out. WRONG: Cashier – Jun 2010 to Jul 2012 Salyers Grocery – Jackson, KY Family owned business. Filled in for owner when needed.Maintained a clean, orderly and well-stocked environment. Received money and maintained cash register. RIGHT: Cashier Jun 2010 to Jul 2012 Salyers Grocery – Jackson, KY
With the individual experience clearly separated by bullet points, the reader can easily grasp how the job provided relevant training to the candidate.
Describe all your relevant education and training
The resume sample is noticeably too short and would make any hiring manager wonder about the qualifications of the candidate. Although a resume should be concise, it should represent thoughtful preparation and will usually at least fill one page. In this sample, the candidate is a certified nursing assistant, but the Education and Training section only lists one subcategory, a High School Diploma. In addition to this training, the candidate must have gone through a specific training program to become a certified nursing assistant. This training should be clearly outlined. WRONG: High School Diploma 2014 Lees Community College – Jackson, KY, United States Coursework in Anatomy, Physiology, and Biology. Certified Nursing Assistant. Currently studying Medical Terminology. RIGHT: High School Diploma 2014 Lees Community College – Jackson, KY, United States Coursework in Anatomy, Physiology, and Biology. Certified Nursing Assistant Training Program
Include only relevant and clearly understood skills in a highlights section
In the example resume, the Skill Highlights section includes multiple confusing and irrelevant data points. One of these is listed as Reliable transportation, which does not clearly identify if the candidate provides good transportation or has good transportation. Second, the skills section lists Currently studying Medical terminology, which is not a skill. Anyone can study any topic, and this does not reference any true qualification. It is better to reference an achieved standard by which medical terminology proficiency is measured or a class that you have completed. The skills section also references Certified Nursing Assistant as a skill. This might not be a problem if it was not also referenced in the Professional Summary, the Licenses, and the Education and Training sections. This level of redundancy makes the resume appear to be quite empty in its content. It would be much more effective to remove it from the Skill Highlights section and describe it in detail in the Education and Training section. By so doing, this critical point will described sufficiently without overuse. Take advantage of the advice given by experts regarding this Recent CNA Graduate resume sample.
