Writing a top-quality resume can be tough because there are so many rules that need to be followed. There is a certain way to write resumes, so all pertinent information is presented in an easy-to-comprehend manner. In order to give you a push in the right direction, our experts have examined a real estate sales manager resume sample to see what aspects of it need to be fixed.
Never state you are looking for a new job
The very first portion of your resume should be a succinct summary that contains information related to your experiences and skills. It should give the reader a sense of what you have to offer the company and what to expect for the rest of the page. Although it is common for many applicants to include an objective statement that says they are currently looking for a new job, this material needs to be excluded from all resumes. The reason is that it is entirely redundant. A hiring manager will know you are looking for new work because you bothered to send in your resume.
Bulleted lists should be used under Professional Experience
Paragraphs should never be used when you are describing your work history. You want each individual responsibility or accomplishment to be given its own separate bullet point. All of the positions listed on this resume sample are formatted incorrectly, but if we were to just use the information given for Garberick Realty Co. as an example, it should look like this:
Never use past tense for current jobs
Even though the writer of this sample currently works for Garberick Realty Co., all of the bullet points are written in the past tense. This does not make sense because he is currently performing all of these tasks, so they would need to be rewritten. Using the first two points as examples, the above mentioned list should instead go like this:
It is okay to remove dates from education
Although you always want to include the dates for your employment so a hiring manager knows exactly when you worked at each position, it is acceptable to leave out the dates for your education if you want. You do not have to do this, but some people choose to do so that an emphasis is not placed on their age if they graduated a while ago. It is recommended to include dates if you have recently graduated because you may not have a lot of work experience and having just graduated from college will help explain that. You can decide for yourself whether or not excluding education dates is something you want to do. A lot of qualified candidates might be applying to the job you want to get, but by following some very simple rules, you can send your resume to the top of the pile.
