One of the most important parts of looking for a job is having a resume that adequately describes your qualifications while selling you as a valuable and appealing job candidate. By learning how the best resumes are written, you will have a much higher chance of getting that call back for an interview. To help you, our experts have evaluated this Production Welding Technician resume sample and pointed out the improvements that need to be made so the resume adheres to the best practices. Take note of these crucial resume tips.
Do not use personal pronouns anywhere in your resume
Think of a resume as a description of yourself from an outside perspective. Statements in your resume should look like first-person sentences with the personal pronoun removed. This is the most professional way to write your resume and it is the correct format. Save your story for the cover letter, and use the resume to highlight your qualifications in short bullet lists.
A summary should address an overview of your experience, two or three major skill sets, and some valuable personality traits/soft skills
A summary may be in paragraph form, but keep personal pronouns out of it. The summary should also include a couple skill sets, and highlight ones experience, as well as describe oneself as being a present worker in the role being applied for. WRONG: Summary I am an extremely fast learner that focuses on being the best at anything I do. I focus on quality and safety above all but always meet production goals. I am also a very punctual, dependable, and hard working person that is eager to learn new things. RIGHT: Summary Welding technician with extensive experience and full skill set, including equipment maintenance and inspection. Extremely fast learner that focuses on being the best. Focus on quality and safety above all but always meet production goals. Very punctual, dependable, and hard working person that is eager to learn new things.
Separate information into appropriate categories
Putting skills and training in the same section as personal traits detracts from either being able to stand out. The emphasis will be more powerful with a separate section for personal traits. WRONG: Highlights
Be sure to include the names of your previous employers, their locations, and the dates of employment
It is very important to include dates of employment as they show how much experience a candidate actually has. The sample resume lists plenty of experience, but it is impossible to tell where the applicant worked or even for how long. It would be easy to just fabricate a list like this that fails to mention a legitimate business as a previous employer. WRONG: Production Welding Technician
RIGHT: Production Welding Technician WELDCORP, Daviess, KY 8/2014-present
Double and triple check to make sure that your grammar and spelling are correct
You will notice that in the augmented version, a couple misspellings were changed and periods were added to the end of the bullet points. These are the kinds of errors that spellcheck will not catch for you, so make sure to revise your resume carefully and check to make sure you have not misused a homophone like the sample resume does with insure instead of ensure.
