Format the accomplishments section correctly
The accomplishments section is a fantastic way to show off some notable and/or measureable skills to potential employers. However, only metric information, awards or other notable items should be listed here. Vague or general duties should be left off the resume or included in the experience section with the job it pertains to. Jesse includes several points that would be better suited in the experience section instead. He needs to remove these points and make sure each detail that’s leftover has a bullet point for clarity. WRONG: Planned, directed, coordinated and assigned manpower to efficiently meet production requirements. Set up preventative maintenance plan that produced significant savings to bottom line. No knowledge of savings data due to leaving job before enough time lapsed to calculate numbers Implemented plan that saved $400,000 in fuel in the first year after plan was enacted. Implemented a “12 hour shift rotation” that eliminated absenteeism completely and boosted morale for all hourly employees. Trained managers, supervisors, etc. to properly conduct meetings to gain the best results by championing projects to assure everyones involvement. Identified problems and directed them to proper authorities. and followed up to assure they were corrected. Mediated with Management/Employees relations to assure good morale and profitability. Set sales records for every month I was employed in a sales position. RIGHT:
Include at least five items for each job
The experience section is where an applicant really shines, so it needs to have at least five but no more than eight points per position. These can discuss more than general duties, including projects and accomplishments. Jesse never includes enough details and sometimes none at all. He would fix this by writing much more than he has to show off what he’s learned over the years.
Use bullet points to create clarity in the experience section
If an applicant has had many jobs or has a long career, the experience section can be a beast to read if bullet points aren’t used. Bullet points help readers navigate the information easily and quickly, so they are necessary to include. Jesse doesn’t include them, so he needs to fix this error before sending the resume off for employers to read. WRONG: Shuttle Driver May 2010 to July 2012 EZ Ride of Augusta ? Augusta, GA Transporting passengers from designated origins to designated destinations. Checking and reporting conditions of vans to proper authorities. Assisting customers as needed in their boarding and leaving the van and loading and unloading of luggage. RIGHT: Shuttle Driver May 2010 to July 2012 EZ Ride of Augusta ? Augusta, GA
