Do not say you are seeking new work
This sample resume begins with the following statement: To seek a high-level position. Your resume should begin with a few sentences about your talents and experiences that make you the best candidate for the position. You do not need to say that you are looking for work or you are hoping to get this job because a hiring manager already knows that. Why would you send your resume to the company if you were not seeking the job? Including information like that is redundant and should be eliminated from your resume completely.
Minimum of three skills per column
Including a section of your resume titled Skills is very useful because it will allow you to easily add valuable keywords to your resume that a hiring manager will be searching for. It is recommended to have anywhere between three and eight skills in a column, but you could have two columns to include more talents. This sample has two columns, but one of them has three points while the other has two. It might be preferable to combine them into one column of five skills, or the writer could add another skill to the second column to make them more even.
Add bullet points
Bullet points are heavily suggested for resumes because they are a great tool for categorizing information. They are simple enough to add to this samples Accomplishments section because all of the points are already given their own lines. However, you would want to break up the paragraphs given under Experience to present them in list format. For example, we could break up the material for Avid Ink like this:
Five to eight bullet points per position is ideal
There is plenty of information given for Avid Ink that we left off the above list because generally speaking, you want no more than eight points for any one job. Even if there was a ton you did at a certain job, you want to stick to talking about the points that are most relevant or impressive. An employer is only going to spend so much time going through your resume, so you want to avoid providing an overabundance of material. On the opposite end of the spectrum, the other job on this sample resume only has three points. The minimum you want to have is five, so you should aim somewhere in between those two numbers.
