Don’t have too many bullet points in one section
When a section becomes overcrowded with bullet points, it can actually detract from each individual point’s being able to stand out. A good rule of thumb for these sections that highlight skills, personality traits, and accomplishments is to have no more than 4-8 points per column in two columns. A way to do this in the sample would be to separate some items from the Skills section into a separate Personal Highlights section. WRONG: Skills
RIGHT: Personal Highlights
List jobs in the experience section in reverse chronological order
You most recent or current employment should be the first thing a potential employer reads in this section. Proceeding back in time from there is the most organized way to go. It gives a more coherent picture of your experience by providing a sense of the progression you have made and where you stand now.
Make sure to use present tense if you are currently in a position and past tense if you have left a position
You want to be consistent with your tenses and have them in agreement as a point of grammatical correctness and clarity. Also, try to use different descriptive language and strong action verbs to begin each point in this section. The experience section should not read like a job description. There should be 5-8 points per job, each point ending with a period. WRONG: Work History Production Secretary, 03/2013 to 04/2013 Worldwide Production Services Coconut Grove, FL
Intern/Production Assistant Organized, 01/2013 to Current Worldwide Production Services Coconut Grove, FL
RIGHT: Work History Intern/Production Assistant Organized, 01/2013 to Current Worldwide Production Services Coconut Grove, FL
Production Secretary, 03/2013 to 04/2013 Worldwide Production Services Coconut Grove, FL
