The resume you send to an employer is essentially the first impression you are giving, so you want to be certain it is a good one. Even if you are perfectly qualified for the job, having a resume that is improperly formatted or contains superfluous information can be disastrous for your job prospects. No need for complete sentences in summary
The summary portion on your resume is going to be at the very top, and it should offer a brief overview of the skills and talents you possess that would make you an asset in this position. It should be four to six sentences long, and you do not need to use complete sentences. For example, this resumes summary looks like this right now: I started out as a after school plumber when I was 16 threw 18. at the age 18 I started doing metal and wood construction. ( I drove heavy equipment with plumbing and construction. At the age 19 I worked with my uncle in his Mechanic shop, soon after I joined the United States Army I have been in since 2012. My contract end May of 2015. You would simply want to remove the first person pronouns, so it goes like this: Started out as a after school plumber from the ages of 16 threw 18. Started doing metal and wood construction at 18. Drove heavy equipment with plumbing and construction. Worked with uncle in his mechanic shop at the age of 19 and soon after joined the United States Army.
Proofread before submitting
There are still a few things wrong with this summary. First, he wrote a after school plumber when it should be an after school plumber, and he wrote threw instead of through. One of the most important things you can do before sending your resume to a potential employer is to thoroughly read through it to make sure nothing is misspelled and there are no grammatical errors. An employer may toss out your resume if it looks like you do not even know how to write simple statements.
Have at least three accomplishments if you are going to have separate section
This resume currently has just one achievement listed under accomplishments. If you are going to devote an entire section to your accomplishments, then you want to make sure it is justified by listing at least three. If you do not have three, then you would want to move the one achievement you do have somewhere in the experience section.
Use bullet points in work history
Formatting is everything when it comes to resume writing, and employers are going to expect to see bullet points under your experience. This resume is lacking those essential bullet points. Therefore, you would simply want to add them like this:
Have at least five but no more than eight bullet points
The jobs on this sample resume do not have the number of bullet points employers are looking for. Two of them only have one point while the last one has a huge chunk of information. You want to have a certain level of balance, and one way to achieve that equilibrium is by having somewhere between five and eight bullet points for every place of employment. Therefore, this person would want to add responsibilities and achievements for his time at the U.S. Army and Jays BP, and he would want to bring down the number of points he has for Scotts Plumbing.
