If you are interested in obtaining a new job in your future, then you are going to need a proper resume to even have a shot. Anyone interested in getting into painting or the home renovation field in general should check out a painter resume sample to see what someone else has done. Our experts went through one of these sample resumes, and there are some things that can definitely be made better.
Minimum of three accomplishments if you are going to have a separate section
Adding a segment that focuses on the various achievements you have attained throughout your professional career is an excellent way to make yourself stand apart from all the other applicants. However, you want to be certain that this entirely new section is warranted, and the typical rule is that you want to have a minimum of three accomplishments if you are going to put them in their very own space. On this sample resume, we are only given one project he worked on as a painter. It is certainly impressive, but it might be better to just put it under work experience if that is the only thing he has.
Put bullet points under accomplishments
If you are going to have an accomplishments section, then you want to format the material with a bulleted list instead of just having a paragraph like this resume sample has. Adding bullets is easy enough and would look something like this:
Again, a list would only be necessary if you had at least three things to talk about.
Experience should be formatted with bullet points as well
Similar to your accomplishments section, you should use bullet points to format your work history. Right now this sample resume just has the information presented for Chase Park Plaza as a single paragraph, but you would want to redo it so it is this:
Although there is only one job on this sample, lists should be used for every job even if you have multiple ones.
Begin every bullet point with a strong verb
If we take a look at the list above, then we will notice that a couple of them do not start properly. It is ideal to immediately grab the reader’s attention, and a good way to do that is to start a statement with a strong, active verb. Therefore, you could rewrite the list above to be like this:
Aim for at least five responsibilities / contributions per job
Any time you talk about a previous place of employment, you want to be as descriptive as possible. You should assume that all the other job applicants have similar experiences as you, so you want to try to stand out and offer something other people will not have. Since there are only three points in the above list, you would want to try to add at least two more to reach a good minimum. With that being said, you generally do not want to go over eight points for any given position.
