Whether you act like a kid all day at work or wear a professional suit in the conference room, a resume needs to accomplish the same thing: get you hired. However, many mistakes commonly make it into resumes, damaging applicant’s chances at even getting a call back. Make sure your resume can stand up against the rest by following this expert on call preschool teacher resume sample advice.
Sell your skills in the professional summary
The professional summary is the first thing an employer sees, and it needs to sell. This area is a great opportunity for applicants to show off their best angle, providing information on experience, education, skills, and soft traits. Kelley includes some good information, but she needs to work on the structure. All sentences should begin with active verbs that are interesting, such as motivated, focused, or determined. The sentences should be placed in one paragraph and be between four and six lines of text.
Follow the rules in the highlights section
The highlights section should only contain information that is relevant to the position desired, and it should be contained in small keywords. Kelley accomplishes this for the most part, but she does include a personal statement. She needs to make sure this is relevant to the job she wants. If it is, then she needs to make a suitable keyword. If it isn’t, then she needs to delete it. Also, she needs to even out her columns and remove any repetitive keywords. WRONG: Highlights
. I have about 10 years of cooking experience cooking for my family of 4. Everything from cooking a big holiday dinner to simple potato salad. RIGHT: Highlights
Drop the pronouns and begin with active verbs
Any time an applicant has the opportunity to discuss themselves, she should always drop the first person pronoun I and start with a lively verb. Kelley uses pronouns throughout her professional summary, accomplishments, and experience section. She will need to adjust these areas to follow this rule.
Bullet points must be used
The experience section can look messy when bullet points aren’t used for job details. Kelley doesn’t include them, which makes reading her information quickly a problem for employers. She needs to make sure each sentence is placed in list form and given a bullet point. WRONG: On call /floater September 2012 to CurrentOcDc Mirgrant Headstart ?
