Bullet points make a clean-looking resume
Without bullet points, this resume is an ocean of words with no navigation to direct the eyes. Many employers receive hundreds of resumes, and when they receive one like this, it may just get passed over instead of read. Bullet points make important information easy to find. This applicant needs to fix this issue by placing a bullet point by each job detail and place it in a vertical list. WRONG: Auto Tech Joe Hudspeths Goodyear ? Abilene, TX. 633 Pine St Abilene,TX. Only discuss relevant information in job descriptions
Another problem with the job description area is the kind of information included. All details should be specific duties, projects or notable achievements. This applicant wrote vague details and included school information that isnt relevant to his employment. He would fix this by using active verbs to describe his duties and deleting or moving all unnecessary information.
The summary section should be at the top
The summary section is a great way to sell skills, experience and relevant traits in the first paragraph an employer reads. This applicant places his summary almost at the end of his resume. To fix this, he needs to move it to the top.
Dont include references
References no longer need to be included on a resume, but should instead be ready to hand over if an employer asks for them. This helps shorten a resume to an ideal length of one to two pages. Jay should remove this section completely.
The skills section should be a list of keywords placed above experience
The skills section quickly shows off snippets of skills or training, so it should be placed above the experience section and below the summary section. These details should not be sentences like Jay has written them in his resume. Instead, they should be keywords. Jay should also take the time to incorporate his core professional and personal attributes section into the skills section.
