Improving the quality of your resume can be much easier when you use an existing Nursing Assistant resume to teach you important lessons. Our experts have critically analyzed real-life resumes to identify common mistakes. You can greatly improve your resume by avoiding the mistakes found within this article.
Only include relevant information under each section
The purpose of headers is to define what the following section will include. Hedings are a critical form of organization and help the hiring manager to organize the skills of the candidate. For this reason, it is important to only include relevant information under each section. In the example resume, there is a Licenses section that includes only one point that is actually a license. The remaining points are really certifications and job training. To improve this resume, it is important to either redefine the header to describe the content or to reorganize the content to fit the headers. This resume already has an Education and Training section. The education points could be moved down to this section. By simply changing the name of the section to Licenses and Certifications, the content fits the header. WRONG: Licenses
RIGHT: Licenses and Certifications
Avoid run-on sentences in the professional summary
Although the professional summary can include fragments or complete sentences, the resume sample includes a long, run-on sentence. The content becomes confusing and hard to read. To improve this section, it is important to break up the statements into cohesive fragments or create concise sentences. The purpose of this section is to describe a candidates professional experience and goals. It should be easy to read and should impress the reader. WRONG: To enter the work force as a Practical Nurse to gain clinical experiences as I return to school to further my education to become a Register Nurse and one day specialize in Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nursing. RIGHT: My goal is to start a healthcare profession as a Practical Nurse to gain clinical experience. I will return to school to further my education to become a Register Nurse and ultimately specialize in Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nursing.
Use consistent formatting in resume sections
You want the focus of your resume to be completely on the content. That is why you should commit to a specific format in each section. In the resume example, the individual points do not have consistent capitalization of the first word. The correct format is to capitalize the first word after a bullet point. When you make formatting mistakes, you can distract the reader from your skills. WRONG: State tested Nursing Assistant
RIGHT: State tested Nursing Assistant
