Creating the perfect resume is difficult, but can be made much simpler by consulting some sample resumes. Both good and poor resumes can be of some value to you when you are crafting your own work. Never Use I’ Statements
The introduction section of the sample resume does a great job of describing the job applicant, but contains a large error. The word I’ does not belong anywhere in your resume because they look informal and unprofessional. To fix this issue, simply remove the pronouns from the sentence. It is perfectly acceptable to use sentence fragments in your introduction. Leave Out Personal Information
Most hiring managers are not interested in a musician’s birthdate, height, measurements or any other personal information. Some personal details, such as name and contact information are crucial. Include Dates with Experience
When you are discussing your experience, always include dates. In the sample resume, you can see there are many positions listed, but no notation as to when these performances occurred. This information helps convey to your potential employer that you are well vetted and have the appropriate amount of experience for the position.
Lists Should Always be Bullet Pointed
Bullet pointed lists are easier to read than standard lists. Using bullet points makes your resume look more organized and put together. While the sample does a good job of listing previous positions, they are all grouped in one large section with no bullet points. This simple change makes your resume look more organized and increases the chances of grabbing the attention of a hiring manager.
Keep Education Section Relevant
If you have college, university or vocational information to list in your education section, it is not necessary to include your high school graduation information. High school and GED information should only be included if that is your only education. Also, any currently in-progress degrees should be noted. While the sample does a good job of listing relevant educational information, it is unclear as to whether the applicant is still working toward their degree. You should make it obvious to your future employer where you stand on the progress of your education. It is not, however, necessary to list specific classes you may have taken.
