Writing a resume can be tricky because you essentially only have one page to sell yourself to somebody you have never met and convince him or her to give you a job. It is tough, but there are plenty of ways to make your resume more attractive to hiring managers, so they actively want to meet you for an interview. To assist you further, we asked our experts to go through a military clothing warehouse supply technician resume sample to see what general lessons can be learned from it.
Make summary a paragraph
The general recommendation for the summary at the top of your resume is that it should be between four and six lines in length. This is needed so that the reader has a good idea of what to expect for the rest of the page. A potential employer is not going to be intrigued with a couple sentences that only list off a few basic traits. You want to make the reader excited to see what else you have to offer, so put in the effort to have a solid paragraph at the very beginning of your resume.
Maximum of eight skills in each column
This sample resume has a section titled Highlight, and this is an excellent opportunity for the writer to succinctly go over the basic talents she has acquired over her career. However, you do not want to get too crazy. You could fill up an entire page with your skills, and generally, it is best to stick with a maximum of eight points per column. Luckily, you can break up this section into two columns, so you could feasibly have 16 skills mentioned.
The Accomplishments and Experience sections should have bulleted lists
Several sections within your resume should be written in list format, which makes the material easier to read through. If we take a look at this resume sample, then we will notice that all the information given for her accomplishments and experiences are given as paragraphs. This needs to be reformatted, so it meets resume standards. Using the material given under Accomplishments as an example, it should go like this:
Stick to a maximum of eight states for every position you have held
The paragraphs given under Experience look fairly long. Her time working as a supply technician for MCCS-MCBH has 11 sentences, and the general rule to follow is to have at most eight sentences for every job. Even if you did a lot for every position you have ever worked at, you want to stick with the points that are most relevant to the job you want to get now. This will help make your resume more concise.
Try to get your resume down to one page if you can
Some employers will not care how long your resume is as long as it is not a novel. Having a resume that is two pages long might be fine if you have decades of experience, but generally, you should try to have one that is a solid page in length. If there is any redundant or superfluous information, then it should be removed. Following some general guidelines will make the resume writing process go so much more smoothly.
